Every One Can Run campaign kicked off at Excel World, and Crescat on the first two weekends of November 2008.
Glory Treadmills contributed with 6 Glory Treadmills set up at two location encourage people to simply run for a worthy cause and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) is contributing money towards funding free cataract operations for every kilometer completed. SCB is also matching every rupee made by the public towards this cause. A total of 60 cataract surgeries were funded due to the public's participation in the Every One Can Run campaign.
For every Km run by a person on the Treadmill, Standard Chartered Bank donated LKR 200 towards funding free cataract surgery through the Lions Gift of Sight Hospital and also the fastest participant to complete total 42Km during the promotion period, was given a free Air Line ticket to one of the Marathon locations. Participants who completed the 5Km mark have been presented with the Glory Treadmill Cap, SiB/GRoE T-shirt.
Special mention should be made of two young children of ages eight and nine, Hansana Tharush Balasuriya and Kuvira Thanuvi Manamperi who completed 16.1Kms and 10Kms respectively in aid of building funds to provide more free operations and aftercare for the needy. |
